“No Camper Left Behind”

Dear Friend of Bay Shore,

On the first night of Senior High Camp in the summer of 2023, a teenage girl sat quietly in the back of the tabernacle as campers listened to a message about God’s love.

That camper was Shana — and her story is why scholarships matter.

She had arrived at Bay Shore unsure of what to expect. But within the first few days, something began to change.

“When I arrived at camp, I quickly noticed how kind and supportive everyone was. For the first time in a long time, I felt peace.”

That Sunday evening, as she listened to the message, something else changed as well.

“For the first time, I believed that God loved me.”

At the time, I (Jon) was serving as the Food Service Director at Bay Shore, and I had the opportunity to be the worship speaker for that week of camp. Later that evening I had the privilege of talking with Shana as she wrestled with what she had heard. Moments like that are sacred reminders of why this ministry exists.

Over the past three years, Shana’s story has been a tremendous encouragement to me personally in ministry. Knowing that God used me to help a young person truly see His love has been something the Lord has used to encourage and sustain me.

Today I serve as the Program Director at Bay Shore, and stories like Shana’s continue to remind me why camp matters.

But stories like Shana’s only happen because someone made it possible for her to come to camp.

Shana was able to attend Bay Shore because a generous supporter helped provide scholarship assistance that made camp possible for her family.

Today, many families still want their children to experience camp but struggle to afford the full cost. A week of camp at Bay Shore is $539, and scholarship support often makes the difference that allows a camper to attend.

That is why part of our vision at Bay Shore is simple and clear:

“No Camper Left Behind” for inability to pay.
