Something of a theme verse for me over the years comes from 1 Cor. 12:12 and following, talking about the importance of the many parts of the “body of Christ”. This image of the body is a follow up to Paul's discussion of the “gifts of the Spirit”. In this treatise he states that the “gifts of the Spirit” are given not to edify or glorify the individual, but to build up the body of Christ. This for me is an important reminder that we are called upon to use our gifts and talents in the service of the King, in all the various ministries that we are a part of. Some additional observations I would like to share from this image of the body are:
It takes many people doing lots of different things here at Bay Shore to produce the kind of ministry that happens here on a routine basis. These run the gamut from paid to volunteer staff; administrative to clerical. While there are those of us who are more visible in the work that is done, it makes it no more important that any of the others that toil on the Lord's behalf.
As many of us as it takes to run the ministry here, our goal is one, that is to create opportunities for persons to encounter Jesus the Christ. As I've gotten acquainted with folks here, I have been pleased to hear that the “worship” opportunities rank as one of the favorite things that they participate in. This is an affirmation that the Body of Christ at Bay Shore is doing its work well.
I want to invite you to become of part of this family, whether as a volunteer, supporter with your prayers and gifts, or as a participant in one of our many events. Together we fulfill the purpose for which God has made us, and we make a joyful noise for the Lord that draws the attention of a weary world looking for a haven of rest.
Yours in Christ's Service,
